In September, 1999 we bought a split level house. The
house was built in 1647, and is protected as a historical
building. The norther part of the house was a stable
with solid walls. The southern part of the house and
the upper floors are made of wood. Earlier, there was
a passage that ran through the middle of both sides
of the house, and allowed the whole house to be used.
On the left and right sides were the stables, and in
the front was the milking room.
In the first portion of the house there was a living
room and two other smaller rooms. The rest of the house
was used for storing hey for the animals to eat through
the winter. The dimensions of the house are 16.40 m
by 8.10 m. The house has been empty for the last 25
years, the garden was overgrown, the roof had become
leaky, and watter had damaged portions of the interior.
After completing all of the official steps and going
through the red tape, the restoration finally began
in February, 2000. The first step was to start with
the roof and work from there. See for yourself in the
before and after pictures as to how this project started
and and how it turned out in the end.
